Colegio Internacional Torrequebrada´s educational project comes from more than 50 years of history and previous experience.
In 1963, Mr Angel Bueno Roldán founded a private school to provide quality education to a group of families living in Getxo -Vizcaya. Since then, under the protection and direction of Mr Julián Diez Mateo, the centre has grown considerably and educated more than 24,000 students, aged between 3 and 18 years old.
During his last years, Mr Julián dedicated a lot of enthusiasm and effort to this project in order to create a new educational centre with an innovative character where he could apply the knowledge and experiences gained through the years. He chose Andalusia, a region always open to changes and integration, and bought a plot of land perfect for his purposes -surrounded by the best golf courses and just a few minutes away from sports facilities like the Benalmadena Marina, or a horse race course right in the heart of the Costa del Sol, less than 15 minutes away from important cities like Mijas, Fuengirola, Torremolinos, Alhaurín and Málaga.
Since then, and together with his only daughter, Ms Sonia Diez, in 1996 they started the design of a very exciting project, “Colegio Internacional Torrequebrada”, which has now become a reality.
Sonia Díez is currently President of the Educational Group which comprises: Colegio Internacional Torrequebrada (Benalmádena, Málaga); El Colegio Europa (Getxo, Vizcaya); Ítaca Foundation; and Wakana Lake ((Parque Natural de los Alcornocales, Cádiz).
Colegio Internacional Torrequebrada is a bilingual private school (Spanish and English). In 2005 Mr Federico Mayor Zaragoza – former Educational Minister in Spain and UNESCO General Director for 12 years- inaugurated the school coinciding with the infant school opening.
Today, the school offers education to children in Infants, Primary, Secondary and Baccalaureate Education in a stimulating and safe environment in academic, social and sporting contexts. The school counts on excellent facilities, including technical and human resources. In Infants and Primary, we are authorised as a British School by the British Council. In Secondary and Baccalaureate, we are authorised by the Spanish Ministry of Education and by the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO) for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program.
Our commitment to educational excellence has led the school to achieve the AENOR Certification in Quality Control according to ISO 9001 legislation both in the design and implementation of training and development plans that underpin our all of our programs. CIT is a member of, and active contributor in different organizations: UNESCO Associated Schools; a world IB School within the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO); International Schools Association (ISA); national Associations for Private and Independent Schools (ACADE, CICAE); ESIC Business and Marketing School; and member of the Chair of Quality and Innovation in Education (CAINED) at Malaga University, amongst others.
CIT’s academic project is officially approved by the Ministry of Education and covers the education for children aged from 3 to 18 years of age. This authorisation is consistent with the policy of international recognition of our students’ qualifications and certifications offered by our school in Primary, Secondary and Baccalaureate. This guarantees the progress and continuity of our students to University, nationally and internationally.
Thanks to its international networks and associations, our school has formed collaborative agreements with Spanish and International institutions whose aim is to provide young people with guidance and first-hand experience with the complex world of careers, professions and the working environment.
As a result, Colegio Internacional Torrequebrada promotes an active learning environment, in and out of the classroom, that favours the development of creative and critical thinkers, able to express their ideas, guide their actions to achieve a defined objective, establish commitments and work efficiently with others in a Diverse, United and Interactive world.
CIT’s students live and work together in a demanding academic environment, that gives a well-rounded education through the development of leadership skills and abilities, personalised guidance, development of talent and teamwork; skills that are all needed to achieve future success, both in their professional and personal lives.
