Presentation + Storytelling of Miss Cynthia and Miss Sophie’s book ‘Don’t get in a sweat’

All families

On the 22nd of November, in the CIT co-working space, we experienced a lovely event. At 16:15, our dear teachers Miss Cynthia (White Class) and Miss Sophie (Green Class) presented their new children’s book to an enthusiastic audience of students, families and members of our educational community. The book, which sensitively addresses the emotions of children as they start school, captured the hearts of all present. The presentation allowed the authors to share details of their creative process, inspiring young and old with the book’s message and their passion for teaching.

And with Christmas just around the corner, this book makes the perfect gift for the little ones in the house. If you would like to purchase a copy, you can do so by filling the form, and we encourage you to give the gift of stories and emotions this festive season! We thank Miss Cynthia and Miss Sophie for giving us this unique experience and all the families who came together to make this event a special memory for our community.

We hope for more moments like this in the future!

1st term trips

All families

First term trips are over and our students have been immersed in activities of all kinds: from cultural visits to museums and historical sites, to nature trips, where they have been able to connect with the environment and learn about biodiversity. We have also enjoyed sporting activities such as climbing, encouraging teamwork and self-improvement, and survival workshops, which sparked their ingenuity and practical skills in outdoor scenarios.

The enthusiasm and energy of the students has been inspiring on every outing. These experiences not only enrich their knowledge, but also strengthen essential values such as companionship, respect and resilience. We now look forward to the second term with great excitement.

We are preparing new adventures that are sure to be just as enriching and exciting – we can’t wait to share with you all what is to come!

Volunteer Weeks CIT 2024

All families

We continue with the ‘CIT 2024 Volunteer Campaign’ until the 9th of December. An initiative organised and run by Familylab in collaboration with our Colegio Internacional Torrequebrada students.. This year, more than ever, we feel a great motivation to come together and help those who need it most, especially after the devastating consequences of the recent storms in various areas. It is really important that our children ‘live’ the values of our school community, as well as being supportive of others and teamwork. Therefore, we ask for your maximum involvement, every small gesture counts and together we can make a difference.

Events and Projects

Mocks DP

DP

On Monday 2nd the DP Mocks start. These tests are a simulation of the official IB Diploma Programme exams. The Mocks are designed to recreate the conditions of the final IB exams, offering students a valuable opportunity to practice and become familiar with the format, rigour and time management required in the official assessments. This simulation not only reinforces their academic knowledge and skills, but also allows them to experience an environment similar to that of the final exams, helping them to build confidence and reduce stress in the face of future challenges.

Please find below the timetable for these tests.

We thank families for their support in this key process in the education and preparation of our students.

Tip / Curiosity of the week

The Importance of reading

All families

By fostering a love for reading, we aim to empower our students to become thoughtful, informed, and empathetic individuals. Reading is proven to boost academic success, and proficient reading is foundational to learning across all subjects, supporting comprehension, research, and critical analysis. This is reinforced by a wealth of research evidence, with studies demonstrating that those who engage in reading self-selected literature for pleasure average higher grades in English, mathematics, science, and history than their non-reading peers.

Over the coming period we will be raising awareness of the importance of reading and literacy, with focus on how parents can help to ensure that their child/ren maximise(s) their academic potential by incorporating reading into their daily lives. This week the focus is on Early Reading and Primary School. Please do not worry if you do not speak English, as reading with your child in Spanish (or your native language/s) is just as important to develop their skills, strategies and comprehension.

Early Reading & Primary School

Why Reading is Important:

Reading is a vital skill that helps children understand the world around them. At an early age, reading supports language development, introduces new concepts, and builds the foundation for future learning. It also fosters creativity and imagination through stories and pictures.

Why Supporting Reading at Home is Important:

Reading at home creates a positive environment for learning and helps children practice skills they’ve learned at school. When parents and caregivers read with children, they provide encouragement and confidence. Reading together also strengthens the bond between adults and children, making learning fun and engaging.

Key Pointers for Supporting Early Reading:

  • Read Aloud Daily: Reading aloud helps children hear new words and understand how stories work.
  • Encourage Sounding Out Words: Help children break down words into sounds as they read.
  • Use Picture Books: Books with pictures help children connect words to images and understand the meaning.
  • Ask Questions: Encourage children to talk about the story, characters, and pictures to boost comprehension.
  • Be Patient and Positive: Celebrate small successes, like recognizing a word or finishing a book, to build confidence.

Quote of the week

A school should be a place for all children, not based on the idea that they are all the same, but that they are all different.
